Blog Post: A Bit Stressed? Get Out and Play
posted Sunday, April 5, 2009 8:22 AM
Friends: While I mostly like to write about "the job search" and all the possible resources you can use and steps you can take to be successful, it dawns on me how important it is for you to first feel good about yourself. That means doing those things that make you feel healthier, more energetic, and confident as an individual and job applicant.
For many people they get in that zone when they have had enough sleep, nutrition and exercise. For others, reducing stress and feeling healthier means having some down time to replenish. My advice is to make sure you engage in some pleasurable activity each and every day. Well, at least a few times a week. It's important to do the things that make you feel good and have faith in the future. Having fun can mean different things to different people. I have fun if I am chatting with friends or having a communal meal. Some of my friends love bicycling, walking or running, each and every day. Others get a kick out of spending time with their grandchild, their garden, or their favorite hobby. And still others enjoy volunteering, or relaxing by reading the newspaper or a good book. Whatever it is for you, it is very important for you to take care of yourself, especially when you need to be at the top of your game in order to explore the hidden job market or perform well in an interview. It's okay to even relegate that "down time" to your week-ends. While I've done a bit of work during my week-end, I'm also making sure I get some social time as well as some exercise. Both of these replenish me after a very hard week of work, and make me look forward to another one. How about you? Tennis anyone?
