Blog Post: A little career path inspiration to help light your way...
posted Thursday, June 18, 2009 6:35 PM
Because I'm a private practice career counselor, the folks at Jobing just asked me to become another of their Career Development resources for you, the public. I was thrilled, but my mind goes blank as I contemplate what on earth to say in this inaugural blog post. Aack! What would you like to know about?
I'm hearing from lots of people who need help with their job search. Are you one of those? Other times people contact me for help finding a line of work they can truly enjoy, one that provides personal fulfillment and a sense of contributing something to the world instead of merely slogging. Are you one of those? Occasionally there's the stay-at-home parent fearful about how to "sell" her/himself in a resume and an interview to get back into the job market. Or the over-40 job seeker needing a way to overcome negative assumptions about older workers. Or the "I want to go back to school, but what should I study?" situation. What's your story? We can talk about anything related to career search, job search, picking the best educational path, figuring out who you are in terms of life purpose, and more, but where to begin? I welcome your questions, and will write responses to what's on your mind if it's something within my bailiwick. And hey: Bailiwick:
My bailiwick is being a catalyst for others' growth around career choice and all things connected. What's yours? Do you know yourself well enough to answer that question? And how can we get you closer to what that looks like in terms of a career? Or to a job that doesn't stomp on the real you so badly that you're too exhausted to pursue your interests during your personal time? Some inspiration: Finding Your Own North Star by Martha Beck. Free in both the San Diego City and County library systems, under 158.1. Enjoy!

I am a nurse with some career mistakes. Can we talk?
