California is a great place to be if you want a career in the fast-growing green industry.

Our state is leading the way in driving green investment through higher energy efficiency standards and greener building codes. This green shift is bringing in huge governmental, commercial, and personal investments – a clear signal that California is going green, and fast.

This puts us at the center of an ongoing, global conversation: How can we invest our resources more wisely in order to begin living more sustainably?

One place to start finding answers to this question will be the International Conference on Energy Sustainability that the American Society of Mechanical Engineers is hosting this month in San Francisco. Over 875 green industry papers will be presented, with experts coming from around the world to discuss topics as varied as European versus U.S. energy efficiency programs, sustainable energy scenarios in Iran, energy planning in the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City, solar thermal electricity generation in the Libyan desert, and more.

Another place to look for sustainability solutions is right here in town. San Diego State University’s College of Extended Studies has led the nation in offering professional certificates in the green industry to train people who want to enter this fast-growing field. They now offer three certificate programs – Green Building Construction, Green Energy Management, and Sustainable Practices.
