Blog Post: The Best of Both Worlds: Entrepreneurship with a Paycheck AND Benefits!

posted Wednesday, December 5, 2007 9:38 AM

During my tenure running the Women's Business Center of California, I find the biggest obstacle for people in deciding to go into business for themselves is being able to give up a regular paycheck and secure benefits.

With that in mind, the goal of the WBCC is to try and make that entire process easier, and to overcome two of the main obstacles entrepreneurs face: lack of time and lack of money. That is why we constantly strive to find corporate partners who have the same values, and partner with them in order to offer entrepreneurs additional opportunity.

Following that philosophy the WBCC has partnered with Prudential. Prudential has taken the idea of supporting entrepreneurs to an entire new level via their Financial Services Associate program which offers associates the independence of running their own business with the backing of a secure job. It is literally the best of both worlds. In addition, Prudential offers all of the training necessary for associates to become financial advisors and thrive in this industry.

Prudential is currently recruiting in San Diego. Given our shared values, the WBCC has formally become a part of this recruitment. Associates that enter a Prudential program can also receive additional services and benefits from the WBCC to thrive in this capacity such as assistance with marketing, networking, and all other issues associated with running a business. It is important that entities such as the WBCC and Prudential that share the same values partner to help maximize one another's services and provide stronger support and services to entrepreneurs.

Prudential and the WBCC is hosting a seminar and roundtable discussion on the Prudential Associates Program. This is more than your average presentation! The event offers not only a seminar style, comprehensive presentation of the program, but a roundtable discussion format with the presenter, who began with Prudential as a recruit of this very same program. Therefore, participants will have the opportunity for open and frank discussions with someone who has been there, and what better source of information than someone that has experienced it first hand! Specifically, the event offers:

  • Presentation on Prudentials's Financial Services Associate Program
  • Roundtable discussion with Bill Keesling, CLTC, Manager Financial Services / Financial Planner Prudential Financial who began his career from this very same program
  • Complementary luncheon
