Jobing Description
Gibson & Barnes designs and manufactures flight and safety apparel, helmets and communication devices serving emergency medical, law enforcement, military and other aviation industries.
We need an enthusiastic and dependable entry level Design Assistant to work with design and construction of 1st article clothing patterns and samples for garments and soft goods to support production and daily activities related to design and pattern making. We will train to suit our needs. FT hourly position M-F (7:00am - 3:45pm). Hourly wage to $14 per hour depends on experience. We offer medical, dental, vision, and 401k benefits.
Skills / Requirements
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES - and other duties as assigned
1. Assists with design and development of cloth and leather products using Accumark/Gerber for cloth/leather patterns: sizing, grading, custom sizing and designs, cutting paper patterns.
2. Assists in maintaining pattern data and system management in Accumark/Gerber.
3. With guidance of Design management, assists with training of sewing lead and sewers for special orders and designs.
4. Masters facets of Design teams order entry and marker making processes.
5. Assists with research and development of new sewing techniques and processes for new and existing products, refining
and improving in collaboration with sewing lead and mechanic.
6. Assists with fabric and materials research for civilian, government, and military products (garments/soft goods) suitability.
7. Assists with design and development of new products, under direction of Design management.
8. Assists with prototype testing to ensure fit and function, collaborating with Design Lead, Quality Engineer and fit models.
9. Assists with product preparation for catalog/website shoots, coordinating with graphic designer, photographer, models, and Alteration Department.
10. Assists Sales Department with customer measurements.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. HS diploma or equivalent, plus college courses (textiles, design, pattern making, tailoring) required; degree strongly desired
2. Strong garment construction ability to construct high quality construct 1st article patterns
3. Strong task management skills: plan, prioritize, organize and exercise sound judgment and decision making
4. Ability to self-initiate and coordinate tasks with strong attention to detail and follow-up
5. Strong interpersonal, verbal, written, and listening skills with ability to build/maintain supportive work relationships
6. Proficiency with computer software: Word, Excel, Outlook, Accumark/Gerber, Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop
7. Ongoing coursework in pattern software updates required
8. Ability to work resourcefully and effectively, independently and as team member
9. Ability to provide and accept feedback and constructive criticism
10. Good attendance and punctuality a must
