Jobing Description
This is a volunteer opportunity with Helix Water District. Exchange a minimum of 20 hours of labor per week for a campsite that includes water and electricity under a month to month lease agreement. Term of volunteer assignment may be limited, based on continuation of Helix Water District's operation of campground.

Overview:
Under general supervision, Park Host greets campers, keeps some records and occasionally fills out forms. Performs various repairs and park maintenance; ensures the security of the District's reservoir; and performs duties associated with campground operation. A host must work well with people, be personable and neat in appearance. Host must have own RV and be willing to live in the campground for a minimum of 3 months. RV must be neat, clean and in good working order. RVIA or Department of Housing certification is required. Host is required to be on-site a minimum of 20 hours per week, especially on weekends and holidays. These will be done in shifts of at least 4 hours scheduled by the Reservoir Recreation Ranger. Off days will also be scheduled through the Reservoir Recreation Ranger and will typically be during the week. A host must be physically able to perform some raking, shoveling, sweeping, and litter removal.

General Instructions:
Your most important job as a Host is to help Helix staff in providing an enjoyable experience for the public. The impression you make directly influences their stay in our Park and whether they will return. As one of our most visible representatives, you are our eyes and ears, helping to deter vandalism and ensure the rules are followed. Greet campers with a smile and offer any assistance you can and help make their stay fun. Be courteous in answering questions, wear your assigned shirt while on shift, and introduce yourself when making public contact. The Host sets an example by being a model camper, practicing good housekeeping at all times in and around the host site, and following all of our rules and regulations, the same as we require other campers to follow.

Duties:
  • Assist customers and provide a positive experience.
  • Engage in safe work practices.
  • Collect fees and keep attendance and other records of the park; sell permits for camping and fishing; maintain a variety of records such as ticket sales, fish counts and boat launches.
  • Clean restroom facilities.
  • Assist in the implementation of recreational program goals and objectives.
  • Patrol and maintain the security of the Park.
  • Operate a boat to patrol the lake area.
  • Inspect buildings for maintenance needs and perform any needed repairs properly.
  • Patrol the lake's shoreline and water to ensure that trash and debris are removed.
  • Perform landscape maintenance including planting, fertilizing, trimming and cutting back trees, brush and ground cover.
  • Perform routine maintenance on campsites.
  • Investigate complaints regarding misuse of the Park; notify proper authorities of illegal activities.
  • Assist any customer 24/7 when asked. Volunteer campsites will be identified with signage.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Skills / Requirements
    Qualifications:
  • Experience in customer service or maintenance.
  • A valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • RV must have current registration, licensing and insurance; will be reviewed every 6 months.
  • Ability to work well with minimum supervision and present a positive, professional image of the District and deal effectively and courteously with the public often in adverse situations.
  • Knowledge of public relations and customer service.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to perform a variety of ground, landscape and building maintenance work.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, law enforcement agencies, the public, and those encountered in the course of the work.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of restroom cleanliness.
  • Ability to operate power tools safely & efficiently.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CPR certification within 6 months from start of volunteer assignment.
  • Ability to perform physical work in various weather conditions.

    Hours & Location:
    Hours of volunteer shifts will be primarily between 5:00 a.m. and midnight, including most weekends and holidays. Scheduled shifts are typically 4-10 hours long for a minimum of 20 hours per week. Lake Jennings Park is located off Lake Jennings Park Road in Lakeside, CA and is open all year round.

    Selection Process:
