JOB SUMMARY:

Children's Toddler School is an integrated early education program that includes typically developing children as well as children at risk for autism/pervasive developmental disorder. The Autism Education Associate (AEA) is responsible for the daily routines, management, and supervision of the children assigned to him/her and for coordinating his/her efforts with the other teachers in the classroom. Within the program's daily schedule, ensures each child has the opportunity to create, explore, and learn problem solving and critical thinking skills through self-initiated and teacher-directed activities. The AEA is responsible for ensuring that the center meets or exceeds licensing regulations. The AEA is responsible for training parents of children with special needs to implement classroom techniques at home.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma, GED, or foreign equivalent

24 units Early Childhood Education or Child Development

2 years experience working in early childhood setting

1-year experience working with special needs 0-5 Autism or PDD

BA in psychology, child development or related field (12 units must meet licensing requirement for child development courses)

6 months experience with special needs 0-5, including Autism or PDD

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

BA degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field

3 years teaching experience in an Early Childhood/toddler setting

15 hours completed in health/safety, including current pediatric CPR and First Aid
