As a Power-Generation Equipment Repairer, you'll keep the electricity running smoothly by maintaining and repairing electrical-generating equipment in mobile and stationary power plants. The Power-Generation Equipment Repairer is responsible for supervising and performing maintenance and overhaul of Power-Generation equipment, internal combustion engines and associated equipment. Some of your duties as a Power-Generation Equipment Repairer may include: * Perform maintenance on tactical utility, precise Power-Generation sets, internal combustion engines and associated equipment Skills / Requirements
Job training for a Power-Generation Equipment Repairer requires nine weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, and 11 weeks of Advanced Individual Training, including practice in maintaining electrical power systems. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field. Some of the skills you'll learn are: * Generator and power plant operations * Electrical generation and distribution * Diesel generator operation, disassembly, inspection and maintenance * Principles of electrical and electronic circuitry Helpful attributes include: * An ability to use hand and power tools * An interest in working with large machinery * An interest in electricity Advanced level Power-Generation Equipment Repairers provides guidance, supervises and trains other Soldiers within the same discipline. As an advanced level Power-Generation Equipment Repairer, you may be involved in: * Repairing and overhauling starters, alternators, generators, fuel injectors, voltage regulators, switches and control circuits * Supervise activities of a section performing field or sustainment maintenance on tactical utility, precise power generation sets, internal combustion engines and associated equipment * Apply maintenance management and quality control including production and quality control in maintenance activities The skills you learn as a Power-Generation Equipment Repairer will help prepare you for a civilian career as a power plant electrician at a construction company, manufacturer or utility company. * Quartermaster and Chemical Equipment Repairer (91J) * Utilities Equipment Repairer (91C) * Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic (91B) Learn more about the relationship between military training and civilian certification requirements.
