Job Description:

The Payroll Analyst has a key role in executing the corporate payroll process and all ancillary processes including auditing database updates, updating tax, retirement plan and direct deposit elections, and interfacing payroll information to outside sources including banks and tax services. This position is vital in maintaining a high level of customer service for our employees. The Payroll Analyst interacts with a large portion of Premier's employees, assisting and guiding them with their Extensity timekeeping, payroll, and payroll tax issues. As Finance continues to align and strengthen its disbursement processes, the Payroll Analyst will be involved in a number of on-going projects that will require innovative and proactive thinking. The Payroll Analyst will provide support and backup to the Disbursements Supervisor


Major Accountabilities:

  • Extract and review timekeeping information from our web based time and expense tool (Extensity) into Lawson Payroll and process semi-monthly payrolls, annual incentive payrolls, and other on-demand payrolls as needed.
  • Assist employees in use of Extensity time and expense tool by responding to emails, phone calls, and through proactive engagement of employees. Support the Extensity Help Desk for issues relating to expense reporting and timekeeping. Advise employees on Premier compensation and timekeeping policies and guidelines.
  • Audit database updates and follow up with HRIS staff; process employee garnishments; out-of-cycle checks; general ledger reconciliations.
  • Troubleshoot data and processes by researching issues and performing root cause analysis in order to define problems, recommend solutions, and to ensure fluidness and quality of the payroll process.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and other Corporate Financial Services staff to create efficient processes while ensuring the protection of Premier's assets through adequate checks and balances.
  • Run payroll output interfaces, transmit to outside vendors for processing, and collaborate with HR and IT on maintenance and enhancements.
  • Monitor payroll tax elections for new hires and state changes to ensure proper tax withholding and avoid amendments. Post BSI tax bulletins. Support year-end W-2 process.

  • Skills / Requirements

    Education & Experience Required:

  • A formal training program after high school.
  • Payroll certification or accounting coursework preferred
  • Three to five years.
  • 3-5 years experience in multi-state, multi-location, corporate payroll environment using computerized payroll software, preferably Lawson.
  • Certified Payroll Professional or equivalent experience.

    Knowledge & Skills (COMPETENCIES) Required:

  • Intermediate computer skills - must be proficient with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, MS-Add-ins, Outlook).
  • Highly skilled in customer service concepts and be able to handle frustrated employees in difficult situations.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills with proven experience in working among cross-functional environments
  • Planning - must be able to organize work to meet critical deadlines.
  • Lawson Software experience desirable.
  • High level of organization skills to keep process and data in order
  • Trust and integrity - must demonstrate ability to handle confidential information
  • Analytical - must be able to analyze calculations or situations and formulate possible solutions.
