Jobing Description
The Senior Maintenance Mechanic is responsible conducting and leading troubleshooting, repair, and modifications to all of the factory production equipment and systems. The Senior Maintenance Mechanic is required to schedule maintenance activities on a priority basis to minimize equipment downtime and maximize efficiencies.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintenance:
o Plans, lays out, installs, and repairs complex electrical/mechanical equipment, to ensure production goals are met.
o Installs, maintains, disassembles, repairs, rebuilds electrical/mechanical equipment.
o Troubleshoots and repairs electrical mechanical systems and sub-systems of production equipment to minimize production down-time.
o Is responsible for the care and upkeep of all assigned equipment.
o Reads wiring diagrams, blue prints, PLC ladder logic, and schematics to aid in the troubleshooting of production equipment.
o Uses a PC (laptop) to connect to, communicate with and utilize various software programs to troubleshoot processing system (s).
o Identifies all parts and supplies necessary to support assigned areas and shifts and ensures timely delivery of parts and supplies to meet production deadlines.
o Completes all Work Orders within a timely manner meeting or exceeding pre-established deadlines.

Safety:
o Follows all established company policies and procedures to safely complete all assigned work. (eg. lockout/tag-out, PPE utilization and GMPs)
o Works closely with the Safety, Production, and Sanitation departments to ensure the safe and efficient operation of production equipment.
o Complies with environmental regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and Maintenance Food Safety Program.
o Works to promote a safe work environment.


Cost Control:
o Makes suggestions to improve routine maintenance, production/operational efficiencies, to improve the effectiveness of equipment performance.
o Completes work orders in a timely manner meeting or exceeding pre-established deadlines to reduce downtime and meet production goals.
o Works with Production Department to determine optimal time to conduct emergency or routine repairs of production related equipment.
o Will follow through with all repairs to ensure timely completion so equipment is running at full effectiveness.

Record keeping:
o Ensures records are properly filed and maintained to support the tracking of equipment repairs and downtime.

Training and Personnel Development:
o Assists in the direction and training of lower level Maintenance Mechanics.

Customer Service:
o Establishes and maintain positive relationships with all plant employees.
o Responds to requests for assistance from production personnel as urgently as possible.
o Provide follow up to include specific information as it pertains to the status of repairs currently underway.


Skills / Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

Senior Maintenance Mechanic must be able to successfully complete the following:
o Lay out, installation, troubleshooting and repair of complex electrical/electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic equipment and components.
o Rebuilding, repairing, and/or replacement of electrical equipment, parts, fuses, wiring, and machines including automatic and process controls, switch boards, HMI, control centers and panels, relays, circuit breakers, electronic controls, printers, scales, and alarm systems.
o Process for conducting periodic preventative maintenance to include electrical and mechanical inspections, disassembly/reassembly of subsystems, proper lubrication, and testing.
o Planning and scheduling of PM and CM for company down days.
o The full understanding of work order procedures and concepts.
o Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams, blue prints, schematics, and manuals.
o Knowledge of PLC ladder logic and RS-Logix software to trouble shoot and Allen Bradley SLC/PLC/Control Logix processing system(s).
o Ability to Mig/Tig/Arc/Blaze welding, and soldering.
o Ability to operate a manual vertical milling
o Ability and skill to properly size and run electrical conduit.
o Maintain and reorder parts and supplies in order to support all maintenance related items.
o Ability to maintain and update records in support of the work order systems.
o Manage and complete special projects in accordance with expectations.

Senior Maintenance Mechanic must possess the following minimal education and experience:
o High school graduate or equivalent.
o Three years work experience in food manufacturing operation (preferred).
o Three years experience maintaining automated production equipment/machines.
o Three years experience troubleshooting and resolving maintenance problems.
Certifications/Courses (Preferred)
Welding course or 3 years experience
Maintenance-related certification
PLC Ladder Logic certification
Electrical Troubleshooting course

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION
Incumbents may stand and walk for prolonged periods over the course of 7.5 hours. May be required to repetitive lift and carry heavy equipment, tools, machinery, etc. in excess of 50 pounds. Use considerable force to push/pull reach, grasp, and perform fine finger manipulation activities. Climb ladders and work on elevated platforms.
