GENERAL FUNCTION:
Responsible for assisting the preschool teacher with daily activities and ensuring the health and safety of children. The duties include but are not limited to supervision of children, implementation for children and parent participation, recreational activities, and classroom display.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Implement age, culturally and linguistically appropriate lesson plans including indoor and outdoor activities that promote positive intellectual, physical, socio-emotional, and creative development.
* Provide a healthy and safe environment to meet the needs of children.
* may assist with observations and portfolios for each child in the program on a regular basis.
* Encourages and promotes parent participation in the classroom.
* Maintains equipment and facilities of the Center.
* Insures compliance with policies and procedures, licensing requirements and funding source regulations.
* Demonstrates continued personal and professional growth.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills / Requirements
* EDUCATION: A qualified candidate will have obtained one of the following requirements:
-High School Diploma or equivalent required;
-Completion of 6 units in early childhood education or child development, and/or a current California Child Development Teacher Assistant Permit preferred;
* EXPERIENCE: At least (6) six months working with children in pre-school or family care setting;
* COMMUNICATION / LANGUAGE: Bilingual/Bicultural preferred; demonstrated skills in written and oral communication;
* CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES: Current proof of yearly physical examination and tuberculosis clearance; and a fingerprint and Child Abuse Index clearance is required; CPR and Pediatric First Aid Certificates are preferred;
* PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires prolonged or frequent standing, bending, stretching, reaching, lifting and sitting; must be able to lift up to 30 lbs; requires use of fine motor skills and frequent use of close and distance vision;
* MENTAL DEMANDS: Requires the ability to read and interpret data, apply problem solving skills, use of mathematical applications and reasoning, ability to multi-task; and demonstrated ability to build relationships among parents, clients, staff, and community.
