JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting directly to the President/CEO, is responsible for the day-to-day management and coordination of Rady Children's Hospital's activities and relationships with political, governmental and legislative bodies and individuals. Exercises independent judgment in representing RCHSD with local, state and federal elected officials and their staff. Oversees RCHSD's government grant-writing program and manages the coordinator of government grant writing.

Conducts active and on-going surveillance and information-gathering concerning matters of current and proposed law and public policy that may impact the mission of RCHSD and its medical staff. Develops an effective working relationship with elected governmental officials, their staff and advisors and facilitates RCHSD's access into the political network. Participates with senior management, physician and lay leadership in the development of strategies and tactics to enhance RCHSD's political and public policy agendas as they may favorably impact the organization's mission.

Provides staff support and acts as a liaison between RCHSD and its local, state and national political consultants and governmental affairs representatives of other hospital, health care and child advocacy organizations.

Skills / Requirements

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Political science, mass communications or related field, or equivalent work experience

3 years of experience

Experience as a lobbyist or employed as a staff assistant to an elected government official

Experience in shaping public attitude through the effective use of print and electronic media

Experience with political fundraising on behalf of candidates and issues

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's Degree

5 years of experience
