Job Description

DiscoverX is searching for an Associate Scientist to work in San Diego CA.

Responsibilities shall include execution of high-throughput screening experiments in a team environment; preparation and QC of key reagents, and especially test compound management. Eventual lab responsibilities to include data analysis and troubleshooting (using the scientific method to design, execute, and interpret hypothesis-driven experiments); and maintenance of laboratory supplies and infrastructure.

Associate Scientist responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Basic laboratory skills, including liquid handling, reagent preparation, and chemistry-related calculations- including calculations of stock concentrations, making serial dilutions, etc.

  • Execution of high-throughput screening experiments based on SOPs.

  • Preparation and QC of key reagents

  • Analysis of experiments: may include curve-fitting and calculation of assay metrics

  • Appropriate documentation of lab activities.

  • Applies GLP in all areas of responsibility

  • Demonstrates and promotes the company vision

  • Regular attendance and punctuality

  • Conducts all activities in a safe and efficient manner

  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Must have proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel

  • Provides cross-functional support to other departments as required

  • Adjusts work hours as needed to meet deadlines

  • Adheres to site employee health and safety (EHS) requirements

The ideal candidate would possess:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents, such as standard operating procedures and technical reports

  • Ability to perform analyses and data interpretation

  • Ability to multitask with organization and manage time effectively

  • Ability to solve practical problems and troubleshooting skills

  • Ability to work in a laboratory setting, according to the physical requirements of a laboratory role

  • Lab equipment and office computer/software proficiency

  • Above average oral and written communication skills

  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and capacity for team environment

  • Ability to troubleshoot and conduct small projects with minimal supervision

Basic Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the life sciences or physical sciences

  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs

  • Good laboratory technique

  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship

Position is full-time Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., with additional hours as needed.  Candidates living in the San Diego, California area are encouraged to apply.
