Summary:

The Laboratory Manager will oversee the daily operation and supervision of the La Maestra Laboratory.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate laboratory testing schedule
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines as established by La Maestra
  • Purchase lab supplies and equipment
  • Review all laboratory data, maintain required documentations, and approve ad release finished products and raw materials
  • Interpret physician’s orders and secure a requisition before performing test
  • Obtain the correct amount and type of specimen
  • Draws blood from patient’s finger, heel, or vein, observing principals of asepsis to obtain blood samples
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses of body fluids such as blood and urine
  • Performs blood counts
  • Completes appropriate routing, handling, and processing of various medical specimens.
  • Performs tests in an accurate and timely manner
  • Informs physicians of lab results
  • Documents all requests and results of lab work accurately
  • Recognized abnormalities and notifies physician immediately
  • Performs daily quality control and cleaning procedures per guidelines
  • Ensures new employees are appropriately oriented into their department and LMCHC’s policies, procedures, mission, his/her duties, and other staff members
  • Ensures that all laboratory employee reviews are completed equitably and in a timely manner.
  • Evaluates staff performance and competency by direct observation, patient care standards, patient and employee input, and other related means
  • When needed, implements employee corrective action measures
  • Effectively addresses and mediates personnel issues in order to promote a productive and  healthy work environment
  • Ensures that security & safety protocols are enacted and followed for all supervised employees
  • Maintain effective communication and working relationships with other employees and patients
  • Is able to perform all Phlebotomist functions meeting or exceeding standards (see Phlebotomist Job Description)
  • Effectively uses all machines, equipment, forms, automated applications, computer programs (i.e. NextGen, i2i Tracks, Microsoft Outlook), etc. as required in performing assigned work
  • Meets all mandatory training requirements and keeps current with professional licenses and certifications
  • Policies and procedures are established for monitoring personnel competency in all phases
  • Quality assessment and quality control programs are established and maintained
  • Documents all requests and results of lab work accurately
  • Performs daily quality control and cleaning procedures per guidelines
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or related field required, Master's Degree in Biology or related field preferred.

Certification required: Current valid CA Certified Phlebotomy Tech License, current valid CPR certification.

Experience: Minimum of three to five years acceptable laboratory experience. Three years of previous management experience in a laboratory setting preferred. 

Verbal and Written Skills to perform the job:  Bilingual preferred. Familiarity with basic word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Accurate keyboarding skills.
